Not All We Buy Houses Businesses Are Equal

Sometimes people question the validity or ethics of our business. 

While I’m the first to admit there are many out there in Flint, Genesee County, and around Michigan whose “We Buy Houses” tactics are less than savory… we strive very hard to buy houses the right way and not be those guys. 

Still we’ve been accused of “trying to take advantage of people in a hard situation”. And while we do understand this guttural reaction, I wanted to shed some light on our perspective if it helps.

Let me give an example of a house buying experience we had recently. 

We received a call from a couple who needed to relocate back to their family to take care of an ailing family member. 

The house needed a TON of work and the couple worked in white-collar banking and medical positions.  Some people just aren’t equipped or have no desire to remodel old homes. As a licensed builder, I can assure you rehab can be very challenging.  They were in a pickle and knew the house would be almost impossible to sell retail in its current condition and they didn’t want to sink more money into it with relocation on the horizon. 

I walked the house for 7 MINUTES and then told him I would take it, for what HE said he needed.  He just about did a backflip in relief!  They had the moving van in place the day of the closing and right after the closing, they hit the road. 

Their life needed to move on and we were there to buy the home quickly and make it happen.  So who benefited?

  • The Sellers got the amount they needed to cash out and move on.
  • The Buyers (us) invested in a substantial rehab to bring the home up to our standards and now have a profitable investment.
  • All the members of my Team who live locally benefited from the project and reinvested monies into the local economy.
  • Local contractors were included and benefited from the project.
  • The neighbors are thankful and encouraged to see a home being renovated and their neighborhood improved.
  • The city will continue to receive tax revenue on a home that very easily could have gone the other direction. 
  • These neighborhoods need the momentum that good investors and landlords like us add to the community. 

In short, we made the world a better place one property at a time and we are proud of that!
